Blue Nile Madaberya

Do you remember the Blue Nile Madaberiya commercial on ETV? You know, the one with the Macarena tune?
I remember I was in 7th grade when that commercial was being aired, along with some biscuit commercial "Tewat temerto, keseat merkato". This was back when television was a precious thing. Back when I used to go out looking for the Saturday Addis Admas to see what the night's Talak film was. Back when I used to watch Hibre Tir'it so that I could catch the one foreign music of the night - which usually was Madonna's La Isla Bonita. Back when Meto Haya's Keadmas Bashager was the coolest thing on TV. And back when classmates found it weird that I longed for the cartoon films on Yelijoch Gize.
Of all, the Blue Nile Madaberiya commercial was special. I was so addicted to that thing that I used to go to bed moody on the nights it wasn't aired. I memorized the whole thing and used to sing along. It was even recorded on a tape sent to my dad, who was abroad at the time. Yes that was back when we did not have skype and email
. Today, 15 or so years later, that commercial is playing in my head.
"adrashachin Debre Zeit ketema new,
yadisababa biroachin Gerji gara new,
silk kutrachin yihewna yidewululin,
des yilenal egna .something something ...
Blue Nile, Blue Nile madaberya
mashegiya metekleya, blue nile joniya
Pipi, joniya"
Does anyone else remember?

How could I forget the famous Pipi Joniya tune Toms
I remember everyone in my classroom singing it. Even there were times when the teachers joined cause the tune was too good jk but they could have I guess.
p.s- I think the biscuit ad U mentioned was the "Lovely" one.

If we had businesses that depended on a steady stream of joniyas then (probably, a wefcho bet), we would definitely have gone for Blue Nile. That's effective marketing, whizo.
