Why didn't we discuss about Avatar till now guys? I loved the graphics and the story. Took me to another world Smiling I wish I could have seen it in 3D.
p.s- My friend told me that Edna Mall is planning to show movies in 3D in one of their cinemas (will cost em 7 million ETB).

Avatar was the best cinema

Avatar was the best cinema experience of my life, i saw it in 3D it was super awesome!!!! yeah I'm surprised no one here said anything about it too. It's the only movie so far that outdone my expectations both from it's trailer and my general expectations. The story may have some voodoo aspects that i didn't appreciate as much and also it appeared to have the long familiar racist implications that the white boy always saves the day in the end, but i didn't care about all that cause the beauty Cameron created totally swept me off.

It is perfect no questions.

It is perfect no questions. I didn't want it to end.

It was beautiful alright.

It was beautiful alright. And I was sitting in there trying to imagine how it would look in 3D. The 2D experience was quite immersing in itself. (I am so jealous, Ferry)
Like Ferry, I was also a bit put off by the Voodoo stuff. And to be honest, the plot was a bit familiar (white boy goes to the land of the 'savages', falls in love and saves the race). It is also fascinating how 'savages' on Earth and Pandora have a lot in common. Fortunately, I rarely watch such movies for the plots Smiling

I too didn't like the fact

I too didn't like the fact that it reminded me of things that really happened in old times (invasion of the Native Americans, Africans and Aborigines) and it was reminding me of movies/books related to that but the graphics was breath taking and it was an enjoyable ride! Some people thought that the concepts in the movie were original. Actually they are not but Cameron creatively twisted & merged different ideas/concepts to create sth which is very much interesting and artistic so I say much kudos to him. I think he momentarily saved us from the "I have seen it all mentality" that Hollywood creates with the lack of creativity and over done concepts. If U have seen Avatar there is this idea that we are all connected with every living thing around us- plants, animals and that we ppl of earth have lost /are losing that respect for earth, our environment .... and I was thinking about Foundation's edge-one of my favorite sci-fi books of all times by Issac Asimov.
read here and notice how much it sounds like avatar. (Piku U read it too in the good old days Smiling). The Avatar idea is also taken and modified from Egyptian and Indian beliefs. Avatar wiki page

oh yes! yes! the movie was

oh yes! yes! the movie was awesome....the graphics were wikked and how cudn't they be? cuz i read somewhere that the creation of Pandora required over a petabyte (1m gigabytes) of digital storage!! but personally i think that the movie hasn't fully used the 3D effects~i mean compared to some 3D documentary movies about volcanoes, dinosaurs and the rainforest, it was whatever, so i wud say u haven't missed much...but yea all in all, despite the hype i was still blown away and mesmerized.

The hype was too much wasn't

The hype was too much wasn't it? (nice to see you back dina)
I have to disagree about the usage of the 3d effects (assuming you mean the 3d animation not the 3d viewing effects). You can say that the whole movie was computer generated (CG). Surprisingly, I did not feel the CG at all!

I have yet to find out about the 'ground breaking' and 'boundary pushing' technologies used and see whether they match up to the hype. Unless I have been mistaken, motion capture has been around for a while, and so has real-time embedding of CG (however, low res) in live action footage.

um.... the graphics was gr8.

um.... the graphics was gr8. Cant see it in 3d cause i dont have the access. the story was not that original but it took a lot from a lot of movies. The only original thing i found was the noise the so called aliens made - have not heard that in any movie.

so yeah ... it was good, i guess. I only wish i saw it before i saw all those movies that the idea was taken from.

In the interests of clarity, it seemed necessary to constantly remind myself to pay not the slightest attention to the elegance of the presentation; I adhered conscientiously to the rule of the brilliant theoretician, Ludwig Boltzmann, to leave elegance to tailors and shoemakers. Einstein

Will see it on Friday for

Will see it on Friday for the second time Smiling Just read that it managed to beat Titanic(also directed by Cameron) to become the highest grossing movie of all time. (I didn't guess it would happen so soon although it was clear that it would get the spot b4 the end of the year.) "Avatar's worldwide takings in just six weeks stand at $1.859bn (£1.15bn), versus Titanic's $1.843bn (£1.14bn). The figures are not adjusted for inflation or the higher cost of Avatar's 3D film tickets....."

Best movie of the year for

Best movie of the year for me.. Great audio-visual effects and everything. I don't understand the fuss of critics saying that it is biased when we all know how the world functions Smiling

AVATAR was the best answer

AVATAR was the best answer for those friends of mine who use to consider me as a mindfreak while I told them about metaphysics. I have seen the movie 3 times, Am very much interested about the story. Everything was real for me no exaggeration. But, first we need to know the idea of astral projection and astral plane. I am very pleased to see all the metaphysics ideas (which I have a clue) being aggregated this simply, unlike the rest of u I like the voodoo part, jk . This movie is among my #1 movies like that of the matrix, but am very surprised to see the whole process of astral projection on that movie plus the concept of AKASHA, and am very confused to see the interaction b/n the 3D plane and 4D plane creatures. Wish to see it 1 more time !

one love
